NEW YORK, NY —
The New York Guitar Quartet has collaborated with video specialist
Charles Beall to add light, color and
motion to the dynamic sounds of the group’s repertoire. In January the
quartet premiered its first experiment with multimedia, a performance of
Phillip Houghton’s “Opals” with video Beall created for the piece, at the
Sandy Spring Museum, where NYGQ’s concert was part of the annual Lyceum
Concert Series of The Academy of Music.
Beall, an artist studying at the Maryland Institute, College of Art, is
vocal in his excitement about the collaboration. “The potential of this
organization is unfathomable,” he says. “I feel like I’m riding a bull.
A gently fierce bull.”
